The Truth About Women

courage to share telling the truth truth truth about women woke Apr 27, 2022

I'm working right now on the message I'm going to be sharing on Mother's Day at Thompson Station Church. It's become somewhat of a tradition for me to speak to our congregation on Mother's Day, and this year I've been assigned the daunting task of sharing "the truth about women."

Who knew we'd be living in an age when this would be a thing?

I mean, 15 years ago, everyone knew the truth about women. They didn't need anyone to stand up on a Sunday morning and declare it. Just a few weeks ago our youngest congressman, Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) addressed Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and said this,

“I never imagined that one of my sacred duties in this hallowed chamber would be explaining to the House Speaker the difference between a man and a woman,” he said, referencing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). “Take notes, Madame Speaker, I’m about to define what a woman is for you.”

Then Mr. Cawthorn did what he set out to do.

I'm not going to mention him on Mother's Day (of course not!); but between now and then, and especially then, I'm going to ask the Lord God Almighty to calm my trembling heart and give me the courage to boldly proclaim the truth.

Truth itself has become squirrelly, hasn't it?

Just as bizarre as it is that we will literally have a message delivered in church called "The Truth about Women" it's also bizarre that the concept of believing in something as rock solid as the Word of God has evaporated from the psyche of our society.

Sin makes you stupid.

Truth is now "truth" and it seemingly morphs into various shapes and sizes depending on who is clinging to it. It's become "mine" which is altogether different than "yours."

And no matter what your truth might be, it's apparently quite alright, so long as I dare not suggest that what is true for me might just be true for you as well.

In fact, tolerance is the new patriotism in the good ol' USA. It doesn't matter so much what I choose to believe so long as I don't infringe on what you choose to believe by daring to suggest that my belief is rooted in TRUTH.

Truth being something that is true whether or not you choose to believe it.

My husband used a great illustration of this in Sunday's message, The Truth about Heaven and Hell.

He explained that even if he said,

"I don't believe in Alabama."

"Nick Saban's not going to disappear!"

(Much to the chagrin of every University of Tennessee football fan.)

As I write this blog post, it has occurred to me that everything about my Mother's Day message is offensive.

To some traditional grew-up-in-the-church people the fact that I am a woman speaking on Sunday morning is offensive (even if it is Mother's Day).

To those who are "woke," the fact that I dare to declare that I'm bringing you the "truth" about anything is offensive.

And to those who've decided that the most loving way to embrace people today is to applaud their ever-expanding definition of gender; the mere thought that I might join Mr. Cawthorn, and state the obvious is also offensive.

I feel like the little child in Hans Christian Andersons' tale The Emperor's New Clothes who shouted, "but he hasn't got anything on!" (Seriously take a few minutes to click on that link and read the story, you will see what I'm talking about!)

I can't help but believe that for many of us who believe that...

  • Jesus is the Son of God
  • Who loved us enough to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross
  • And rose 3 days later as the Victor over sin, death and the grave
  • So that we are reconnected with our heavenly Father who loves us enough
  • To invite us to live with Him forever!!!!!!!

...we are all going to have to pray for the courage to state the obvious and boldly share our convictions.

The devil's deceived many people today with the lies he's spinning. He's convinced them that his falsehoods and fabrications are clothing them better than the blood of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible. Jesus knew these days were coming and He knew we'd be the people commissioned to spread the truth of His love. He prayed for us when He spoke these words,

"I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to this world any more than I do. 17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world." John 17:14-18 NLT

God's Word is true.

You can anchor yourself to it.

Hold God to it.

Bet your life on it.

Just because people are marching about without any clothes on doesn't mean that they're no longer loved by God. It's not by accident that God's got us standing on the sides of the street watching this parade. He has pre-ordained that we would be right here right now to proclaim the Truth.

It's time for those of us who know the truth to speak of Him boldly with both our words and our actions.

So you pray for me and I'll pray for you.
